OSAID’s Barney Bear

Barney says goodbye to the Regional Representatives

Barney says goodbye to the Regional Representatives

Barney the OSAID Bear’s  travelling around Ontario and  is being  passed from ‘owner’ to ‘owner’ around the province. Every owner will have a chance to look at  the impaired driving information and stuff  that’s in his backpack, sign his diary, take a picture of themselves with him and have the photo posted on the OSAID website ( it’s all set up and ready to go – have a look in the Downloads section).  If you become one of Barney Bear’s ‘owners’ ,  let us know where he is and what he’s getting up to and, when you pass him to a new ‘owner’, let us know where you’ve sent him, too  We’d like him to travel around as much  of the province as he can and, hopefully, make it to the OSAID Provincial Leadership Conference in May with one of the delegates. In the meantime, maybe he’ll attend a few Regional Workshops or some school assemblies and OSAID events  and visit lots of OSAID chapters, members and Ambassadors. If you see him, let us know in this blog!

Kilometers Barney’s travelled so far = 666

Let’s see. There are roughly about 900 high schools in Ontario. What I hope most for Barney Bear is that he attends high schools that are either just starting up a chapter in their school or are hoping to start one up. This is where he will be the most helpful as his backpack will be full of ideas and resources that these schools can use the most.

    • Travis W. says:

I totally agree with Danika. I think Barney will be most useful at the schools that are just starting a chapter or that are thinking about starting one. He will help them to get rolling and to keep going when they begin to become stagnant.

Barney bear will be at Marymount Academy in Sudbury in nearly 2hours!! The regals are super pumped about his arrival. In his honor, we sold Barf(Be A Responsible Friend)bags full of halloween candy to raise money for our OSAID chapter. We can’t wait for him to come visit us and other chapters too.

Just saw Barney’s video on the Sudbury Star site – cute bear! Great idea and a great cause. Go OSAID!

Hi, I’m Deanna and I’m the secretary for the OSAID chapter in Sudbury! Yesterday Barney came to visit us at our school and it was so much fun! We sold Barf (Be a responsible friend) bags with him, and showed him around the school. The newspaper was there and Barney managed to raise tonnes of positive publicity for OSAID and what we are doing within the community. Barney will be visiting lots of Sudbury’s main attractions and spending a few weeks with us. I hope Barney can get the message about OSAID out into other communities when he makes his was through Ontario! :)

Barney was so cute and we got a ruff debate going while he was there. Barney is a great bear to have around and will help with supporting people in our journey to end the number one cause of death amongst teens.. I hope everyone experiences Barneys usefulness. Safe travels Barney

    • goldenhead says:

Yeah, Lyndsea. Why aren’t there more OSAID groups in schools?

      • Lyndsea says:

that is a great question and I have no idea why but maybe it is because some people do not know about OSAID. We need to spread the message before another life is lost.

I saw the video of Barney at Mary Mount and he looks like he is already doing great things! Barney captured my heart from the bery beginning and I hope that he makes his way all around Ontario to all of the schools, as he is a cuddly, loving bear, carrying OSAID’s message around with it. Barney will connect all of the OSAID chapters and ambassadors around Ontario and will help us to stand up against Impaired Driving! So, good luck with Barney. Give him loads of TLC and keep him safe!

I had the pleasure of travelling to Sudbury from Toronto with Barney, and we had tons of fun! Nicki and I stopped to take pictures and made sure we buckled him up in the back seat. If you receive Barney, please write in his diary! I want to know what every one has done with him! Good luck in your travels, Barney. You represent an incredible cause!

Barney attended an Action Sudbury (CITIZENS AGAINST DRINKING AND DRIVING) meeting last night with Marymount Academy’s OSAID members, Jessica and Sam and their teacher advisor, Mrs. Adams. Barney was very interested to learn about what Action Sudbury is doing in the Sudbury area and was very impressed with their mandate to educate and provide support for Sudbury’s youth. We love you, Barney!

I had the pleasure of providing the police escort for Barney to Mary Mount. I was overwhelmed with the amount of enthusiasm show by the students and their support that for OSAID. Keep up the good work very nice to see.

Where is Barney now? Is he anywhere near Kingston, we have some schools that could really use Barney’s help to get going and help spread the message about impaired driving! Hope Valentines Day is good to you Barney and spread the message with your bearly LOVE! Take Care

Barney’s in Goderich! He was at Conference ( so cute!) and his new owner lives at Goderich DCI!!

Barney the bear is currently living in Goderich. He has been a huge hit with staff and students at our school. Barney has watched hockey games, had clothing custom made for him and even attended a birthday party. We have made sure that Barney has eaten properly (see the pictures in Barney’s photo gallery) and have had lots of fun. Barney is looking forward to his weekend away at Blue Mountain as he will be attending the SAC Orientation weekend. Then, he will return back to Goderich for some summer fun. Check back to see some of Barney’s exciting summer adventures.

Barney has just returned home from his awesome weekend in Collingwood. He enjoyed his friday afternoon shopping and relaxing on wasaga beach. Barney enjoyed meeting the new SAC and is getting pretty excited to meet all of the other schools.

I’m a little bit excited about having Barney come to region 11s workshop sometime in the near future!! I can’t wait to take as many pictures as possible : ) He’s going to love meeting everyone out here in the Sault!

  16. Kristen P says:

Having Barney travel Ontario is such a wonderful idea! I think it might be fun to actually have a small photo album in Barney’s backpack, not just online, so that people he visits can see what kind of events he’s been to before and get even more inspiration for some of their own! I agree that it’s best to send Barney to see some new or potential OSAID chapters, perhaps through this year’s workshops!
