‘O’ Says – teens giving advice to teens

September 2nd, 2009

Dear  O
I met a new friend at school and she seems really nice  only she does drugs and drinks uncontrollably  and she’s only 16! I don’t want to watch her life go down hill  and I really hope something turns around for her.  Please help me so I can help her!

From: New Girl in Town’s Friend

 O Says,

Dear New Girl in Town’s Friend

You should try to be her friend and show her you enjoy doing things like going to the movies, shopping and being with friends.  You’re right, your new friend needs help – maybe now is the time for professional help for her. Talk to her about it and how you feel. You should hang out with her and, as you know get to know her, maybe invite her to the movies, go shopping, just hang out maybe bring some of your friends along,  too. Talk to her about it and how you feel. Be supportive – if she listens to you, make sure you listen to her, too. Maybe she has other problems at home  or with the new move – ask her.  Sometimes people get in to drugs and alcohol to fit in. Remember, too, that sometimes being someone’s friend means that you ask for help. Have you thought about talking to her counsellor or the school nurse about the substance abuse? She’s running the risk of serious health issues. Think about trying to persuade her to get some advice.  Hope everything goes well.

 O

Now you’ve read New Girl in Town’s Friend’s letter and O’s answer, have your say – what advice would you give to New Girl in Town’s Friend?

The OSAID Forum

September 2nd, 2009

August, 2010. All drivers in Ontario aged 21 and under must have a zero BAC.  What is your opinion of the new legislation?

September,  is all about ‘newness’; new school, new classes, new school year, new ideas and, for many,  a new subject – driving. What advice would you give to learning  drivers about the issues surrounding impaired driving? What do you understand ‘impaired driving’ to mean?

OSAID’s Barney Bear

September 2nd, 2009
Barney says goodbye to the Regional Representatives

Barney says goodbye to the Regional Representatives

Barney the OSAID Bear’s  travelling around Ontario and  is being  passed from ‘owner’ to ‘owner’ around the province. Every owner will have a chance to look at  the impaired driving information and stuff  that’s in his backpack, sign his diary, take a picture of themselves with him and have the photo posted on the OSAID website ( it’s all set up and ready to go – have a look in the Downloads section).  If you become one of Barney Bear’s ‘owners’ ,  let us know where he is and what he’s getting up to and, when you pass him to a new ‘owner’, let us know where you’ve sent him, too  We’d like him to travel around as much  of the province as he can and, hopefully, make it to the OSAID Provincial Leadership Conference in May with one of the delegates. In the meantime, maybe he’ll attend a few Regional Workshops or some school assemblies and OSAID events  and visit lots of OSAID chapters, members and Ambassadors. If you see him, let us know in this blog!

Kilometers Barney’s travelled so far = 666
